Why the MVC?This is Martin's first episode, and immediately every single joke is hilarious. While he may come off as the typical teachers pet tattletale, he's so funny that you can't help but love him.
Best JokePrincipal Skinner explaining to Homer how Bart has forged Homer’s signature many times in the past to get out of class. He shows Homer a note and the signature is sloppy, clearly the work of a child trying to forge a signature… until Homer hands Skinner a check and the signature matches up perfectly with the one on the sick note, showing that Homer simply has penmanship that can easily be confused for a ten year old.
Best LineSkinner: “Whoever did this is in very deep trouble.” (Referring to the vandalization on the school building)
Martin: “And a sloppy speller too. The preferred spelling of ‘wiener’ is w-i-e-n-e-r. Although, ‘e-i’ is an acceptable ethnic variant.”
Skinner: “Good point.”
Couch Gag
What happens:All the Simpsons gather on the couch, but there is not enough room for Bart so he gets shoved off and flies up out of the frame. The family sits still for a second as the audience waits for Bart to return, while the camera turns to the TV and runs the opening credits- just as Bart falls back down. Simple, but Bart coming back when we least expect it bumps it up to a 3 donut rating.

Episode Synopsis
Bart cheats on an intelligence test but putting his name on the paper of one of his much smarter classmates. A psychologist comes in and determines that he must be placed in a highly gifted school. However, things are not as easy as they seem and Bart finds himself completely out of place as he navigates an entirely new world.
This episode is packed to the brim with jokes, each one funnier than the last. This is an incredibly Bart centric episode (as we can see from the title), and I really enjoyed his character arc throughout it. You can tell that Bart clearly feels guilt and isolated in this new school, but it's some of the first moments where Homer has shown him affection. It makes sense why he would want to bask in these moments for a while longer. I loved the scenes from the gifted school, the children greeting Bart in palindromes, speaking in backwards phonetics, and explaining their favorite paradoxes. The wording the teachers uses while talking to the students, such as "discover your desks". It perfectly encapsulated how Bart felt as he was surrounded by complete nonsense. He was not only shunned by his new classmates because he couldn't keep up with them, but discarded by his old friends because of his newfound intelligence. The entire family going to the opera to watch "Carmen" was extra funny to me, as that is one of my favorite operas so I enjoyed all the references. It's also a perfect Simpsons ending that when Bart confesses to Homer that he never belonged there, instead of comforting him like we are led to believe- Homer chases his around the house yelling at him in rage.
